In Memory of Dick Millard: A True Oldfield Legend
It is with profound sadness that Somerset Rugby acknowledges the passing of Dick Millard, a beloved and iconic figure at Oldfield Old Boys RFC. Dick’s contribution to the club and the wider rugby community has been nothing short of extraordinary, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
Dick Millard was a true clubman in every sense of the word. From the moment he began playing for Oldfield in 1950, he was a central figure both on and off the field. A man of immense character and positivity, Dick’s influence extended far beyond his playing days. He took on many key roles within the club, including serving as Club Chairman during the 1986-87 season, guiding Oldfield Old Boys RFC with the same dedication and passion that marked his playing career.
His presence at Oldfield was irreplaceable. Whether offering words of wisdom, helping with club matters, or simply being there to support, Dick was the beating heart of the club. His tireless commitment and love for rugby embodied the spirit of community that defines the sport.
The funeral service to honor Dick Millard will be held at 2:30pm on Thursday, 10th October 2024, in the Upper Chapel at Haycombe Cemetery. Friends, family, and members of the rugby community are invited to pay their respects. Following the service, a Wake will take place in the Clubhouse at Oldfield Old Boys RFC, beginning at 3:30pm—a fitting venue for those who knew and loved him to gather and celebrate his life.
Our deepest condolences go out to Dick’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will forever remain at Oldfield Old Boys RFC and within the Somerset Rugby community.
Rest in peace, Dick.
