In Memory of Paul Alford

In Memory of Paul Alford – Oldfield OB RFC

The Somerset County Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Alford, a much-loved and highly respected figure within the rugby community.

Paul was a passionate and committed volunteer at Oldfield Old Boys RFC, where he left a lasting legacy both on and off the field. As a player, he proudly captained the 1st XV for several seasons, inspiring those around him with his leadership and determination. Off the pitch, he continued to serve the club as 2nd Team Manager and later as Club Fixture Secretary, roles he carried out with the same dedication and spirit that defined his playing days.

Paul’s battle with cancer was met with immense courage and dignity. His loss is felt deeply by everyone who had the privilege to know him—teammates, opponents, and friends alike. He was a true rugby person, embodying the values of commitment, camaraderie, and community that lie at the heart of our sport.

On behalf of SCRFU and the entire Somerset rugby community, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to Paul’s wife Tammy, his daughters Tallulah and Clementine, and everyone at Oldfield OB RFC during this very difficult time.

Paul’s contribution to rugby, and to all who knew him, will not be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Paul.
