Somerset Rugby Pays Tribute to North Bristol RFC Chairman Steve Bold
Somerset Rugby joins the wider rugby community in expressing its deep sadness following the sudden passing of Steve Bold, Chairman of North Bristol RFC.

The news, shared earlier this week by Tony Swash of the Bristol & District Rugby Football Combination, has been met with shock and heartfelt condolences from across the game. Our thoughts are with Steve’s family, friends, and everyone connected with North Bristol RFC at this incredibly difficult time.
A lifelong servant to the club, Steve’s contribution to North Bristol RFC was nothing short of extraordinary. Beginning his journey in the junior section, he went on to make over 500 appearances at senior level, captaining both the 2nd XV and 1st XV, as well as serving as Club Captain. His passion for the game extended far beyond playing, with Steve dedicating countless hours to coaching both boys’ and girls’ teams and taking on a wide range of volunteer roles, including Junior Chair, Director of Rugby, and Club Secretary, before becoming Club Chairman.
In his role as Chair, Steve was instrumental in bringing the club together under a shared vision of “rugby for all.” He worked tirelessly to improve every aspect of the club, leaving a lasting and positive impact on players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters alike.
A familiar and reassuring presence, Steve was at the heart of the club week in, week out, alongside his wife Sharmaine, supporting all teams from the youngest age groups through to the senior sides. Known for his warmth and generosity, he always had time for others – whether offering advice, sharing a conversation, or simply enjoying a pint while talking rugby.
A passionate supporter of Bristol Bears and a respected figure across the local rugby landscape, Steve was a true ambassador for the sport. The tributes that have followed his passing speak volumes: kind, supportive, dedicated, and wholly committed to his club and community.
Above all, Steve was a devoted husband to Sharmaine and a proud father to Kaiya and Ellis. His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him.
Somerset Rugby extends its sincere condolences to Steve’s family and to everyone at North Bristol RFC. The rugby community stands with you, and we share in remembering a remarkable individual whose legacy will live on in the game he loved.
Rest in peace, Steve.
