The passing of Old Redcliffians’ Ellis Joseph

Somerset Rugby is shocked and saddened to report the passing of the Old Redcliffians player Ellis Joseph.

Ellis’ journey with Old Redcliffians began when he was a Junior. After graduating to the Senior ranks, it didn’t take long for him to establish himself as a regular in the 1st XV. He stuck with the club through thick and thin, embodying the true spirit of a club man. Whether on the pitch or off, you could always count on Ellis.

He was a force to be reckoned with in the front row—a true competitor and the envy of the combination. In addition to playing for our club, Ellis was also selected to represent Somerset RFU, and he was part of the historic team that lifted the Bill Beaumont County Championship Division 2 Cup at Twickenham.

The rugby community will remember the impact he had beyond the pitch, as seen in the overwhelming support for the #TryForEllis campaign, which inspired so many to join the stem cell register—a legacy that will continue to save lives.

Somerset Rugby offers sincere condolences to Ellis’ Family, Friends and Old Redcliffians teammates during this difficult time.
