The passing of Rod Somerfield

Somerset Rugby are saddened to hear of the passing of one Minehead Barbarians respected ex-players, and former Chairman, Rod Somerserfield.

Rod was a man of West Somerset and became a stalwart of the Barbarians after his National Service in the RAF. He was a strong forward, usually in the second row, and loved the fierce battles alongside his teammates.
Rod was one of the key members who stood strong when Minehead Barbarians were on the verge of collapsing due to lack of numbers, and all current Barbarians are grateful for this. He was also club Chairman and a key part of the club’s transition from The Parks to their Ellicombe home.

Somerset Rugby send condolences to all Rod’s family and friends and Minehead Barbarians at this sad time.

RIP Rod… funeral arrangements will be published in due course.
